new to the vineyard

Therefore I am a wash-a-shore.  I have decided to brave a winter here and in these upcoming months I am determined fight boredom, stay warm, maintain my sanity, and most importantly I am going to find fun things to do.  In order to get to know the island a little better I have obtained some general facts courtesy of Wikipedia...
Martha's Vineyard is 20.5 miles in length (33km).  It is approximately 10 miles in width.  It is the 58th largest island in the United States, the 3rd largest on the East Coast, and the largest true island on the East Coast, (not connected by a bridge or tunnel).  The island's estimated year-round population is 15,000, that number increases to 75,000 or more in the summer months!  Wikipedia says that about 56% of the homes on the vineyard are seasonally occupied.  It references a study done by the Martha's Vineyard Commission which found the cost of living on the Island to be 60% higher than the national average and the housing costs to be 96% higher than the national average.
Martha's Vineyard was originally inhabited by the Wampanoag who called the island "Noepe" which in their language means "the land amid the streams".
More to come on the quest for fun...
